Addiction or Nervous Habit?

Addictions: There are good and bad addictions that people can have.
Good addictions are exercise (although I think this one is very questionable), eating healthy, and volunteering. The bad ones are obviously things like drug addition, eating disorders, gambling, and my personal favorite…shopping (So yah, I’d switch the exercising with shopping)! Wikipedia says there is such a thing as a neutral addiction and their example is…mowing the lawn? Um..okay?

My boyfriend has an addictive personality. Everything needs to be in excess for him. One glass of wine always turns into one bottle.
Studying for one test always turns into studying for something else or learning another language. Losing money in the stock market? Yah, he’ll just put more in because at this point, it’s “down so low” he tells me.

I’ve never had an addictive personality. But lately I’m starting to question if my “bad habit” is actually my addiction. I finger pick.
Yeah yeah, it’s disgusting but I legitimately cannot help it. I pick until there is no skin. I’m obsessed with every imperfection on my fingers. I don’t bite my nails, but rather just pick my fingers.
People tell me that it’s from stress and anxiety, but I was just watching American Idol and caught myself doing it. I don’t feel stressed or anxious right now. Hmm, weird.

I was convinced by my boss last week to go see a doctor for it. What a waste of time. I went to a dermatologist and he told me exactly what I knew he was going to tell me. After I told him why I was there, his response was “put band-aids on them so the texture is different”….um…really doctor? Then he followed that genius comment with “I think you should do yoga” and then “I think you should stop being so stressed”. UGH! Waste of time and I’m still doing it.
Thanks for taking my co-pay and not helping, Doc.

So I know that this is a nervous habit, but because I do it even when I’m not nervous or stressed out, I’m thinking maybe it’s turned into my dirty little addiction?

"Cougar Bombs"

My friend Kelly: so funny, so beautiful, so outgoing, so smart, and so much fun to be around. I think her best quality though is how completely honest she is with her truest friends. Good or bad, Kelly is honest with me. I like this in people and I love this in her.

Tonight we were discussing how people “let themselves go”, especially at such a young age. I have to be careful what I say here, but it’s disappointing to see people who were once so athletic, just stop doing anything physical and reach the point where you barely recognize them. I know it’s not an easy thing to always keep up with exercise and eating right (hell, I just had pizza bites for dinner…hmm, very healthy) but you still have to be true to yourself and just do it.

This is especially a tough thing after you have a baby, which is why Kelly and I made a deal to ourselves. We vowed to tell one another when we’ve reached the point of letting ourselves go. Our deal includes a freebee year after our first baby and 6 months after our second. This is, of course, if we even have babies. I’m assuming that you’re body is in complete shock after your first baby and hopefully by the second one you’re able to bounce back a little easier. Who knows, maybe I’m completely wrong. But that’s our deal and I think it’s really good to have a friend that you know will tell you the moment your jeans look like they’re pulling just a little toooo much.

So you’re probably wondering why I titled this “cougar bombs”, right? Ha well…our deal also includes a 3rd component…mommy makeovers together. I often think about getting a breast augmentation now, but Kelly’s right, it’s probably best to wait until the damage is done. And in Kelly’s words “then I want some cougar bombs” and yah, you better believe Kelly will be a cougar one day. She’s a hottie and will probably be caught with the poolboy one day haha. Oh Miss Kelly Ann, you complete me.

Nightlife Fun

So I went out tonight to a club in NYC for a girlfriend's birthday. Can't you tell it went well by the time of this posting? Yeah, that's right, it's 1:40am right now and I'm sitting on my couch eating cheez-its as Lexi chases a fly around the apartment.

What was it about these clubs that I used to like so much? No, Really? You first have to wait in line (as a reminder...it's February!), then you have to check your coat because they literally force you, and then you invetibly wait at the bar forever just to get a watered down drink for about $15 a pop. Okay so after all of that, you think it gets better, right? Nope, it really doesn't. What's the lure? It's so dark you can't even see faces. You get bumped into, knocked over, stared down and have a million drinks poured on you.

I guess the answer at the end of the night is you're with your friends and that's all that really matters. Also, if you're completely drunk, then all of the negatives I've mentioned suddenly become fun lol. When people bump into you, you think they are trying to dance with you. When people stare you down, you feel sexier and end up dancing in a much more unflattering way than you started. And at this point, who really cares about seeing faces? Hmm, funny how that works.

Oh yah and I spent about 2 hours picking out an outfit and doing my hair just to show it off for about an hour or so...spectacular. See pic above.

Oh and P.S. Happy Birthday Jaime
